Dr. Nakatani was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan.
At the age of 18 she came to the US to study.

In 1994 she graduated from Trinity University, Magna Cum Laude. Then she attended UCLA Dental School and graduated in the year 2000. She started working as an associate dentist at the Sugimori Dental Office. Dr. Nakatani and her husband wanted to raise their children in Asia and travel with them. They moved to Singapore in 2008. Dr. Nakatani worked at KoDjeng Dental Center treating Singaporeans and expatriates, including Japanese. She was also the dentist in charge of the annual school dental exams at the Japanese Schools of Singapore.

In 2015 Dr. Nakatani and her family moved to Hawaii where they always loved visiting. Initially she worked at the State of Hawaii, Department of Health Hospital and Community Dental Service clinics. She enjoyed balancing her part-time private practice and public service. However, with the Covid-19 outbreak, she was unable to see patients at the State clinics. She then decided to focus on her private practice. She opened her clinic at the Ala Moana Medical Building in the year 2020.
